This week I have researched reasons why children struggle with their type one diabetes. Many children have a problem with their diabetes because they have a lot of fear with making their blood sugars higher to having them drop extremely low. Some children might just have a fear of needles, some might have a fear of feeling indifferent or embarrassed by their new diagnosis. This is why for my original work i want to talk a lot about mental health for these children. I also want address glucose monitoring, dietary needs, and insulin calculations.
To address their mental health I'll talk about ways to identify if they are feeling differently that could lead them to worsening their health. When I want to talk about glucose monitoring, i will talk about the different types of ranges that their blood sugar should be throughout the day. i would also talk about how to calculate their insulin with a carb to insulin ratio. This will allow the kids to identify carbs and calculate how much insulin they can take for themselves. This will lead to better independence and develop their cognitive system. Lastly, i would talk about the dietary needs. I learned that this can vary between children. However, I learned that proteins should take up a lot of their meals, and less carbs and sugars.
