My research started to look at the types of diabetes so I could narrow my reserach to one type of Diabetes.
Burgess, Jamie, et al. “Early Detection of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy: A Focus on Small Nerve Fibres.” Diagnostics, vol. 11, no. 2, 24 Jan. 2021, p. 165, https://doi.org/10.3390/diagnostics11020165.
“...a small randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase IIa study of participants with T2D and early DPN, found that reduction of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and triglycerides using rosuvastatin improved the neuropathy score and nerve conduction parameters” (Burgess 4). This just shows that rosuvastatin is very beneficial in preventing the brain and nerve damage that leads to diabetic neuropathy. Rosuvastatin is something that reduces the amount of cholesterol that leaves your liver. Typically people that have diabetes and have higher blood sugars, their A1C is higher as well as their cholesterol levels. This can also lead to thyroid problems if one continues to have high blood sugars. Reducing the lipoprotein, however, can be used as treatment of hypertension to allow the body to not be affected too much by the higher blood sugars.

“...immune cells called T lymphocytes attack and destroy insulin-secreting pancreatic beta cells and the pancreas stops producing insulin, the hormone that controls blood sugar levels” (Penn Medicine News). This article talks about the studies of antibodies in the pancreas. The University of Florida and Vanderbilt University have researched about the antibodies like Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase to be present in deceased type 1 patients years before they were diagnosed. This just shows that even though one may not be clinically diagnosed yet, their beta cells were already showing signs of malfunction. This could lead one to think about the heredity genes of these diagnoses. This information would be useful because this source allows me to go all the way back to the origin of the start of Type 1.
Yano, Masahiro, et al. “New-Onset Type 1 Diabetes after COVID-19 MRNA Vaccination.” Internal Medicine, vol. 61, no. 8, 15 Apr. 2022, pp. 1197–1200, https://doi.org/10.2169/internalmedicine.9004-21. Accessed 25 May 2022.
Type 1 Diabetes can happen due to hereditary genes. However, it has been recently discovered that vaccines can increase the speed at which the beta cells malfunction and how the Diabetes occurs. However, it is discovered that this normally happens when one already has malfunctioning beta cells. What is also found out is that these vaccines of the mRNA ones have patients to show autoimmunity to insulin and in the thyroid gland. This source will be very useful for when I need to look deeper into the genes and how the vaccines affect the genes and if there is cell remodeling.
Ionescu-Tîrgovişte, C et al. “Disappearance rate of insulin antibodies after discontinuing insulin treatment in 42 type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetic patients.” Diabetologia vol. 27,6 (1984): 592-5. doi:10.1007/BF00276974
Insulin antibodies are the key factors in Type 1. However, in Type 2 they seem to also have an effect. In this article, there is a study done where they measured the levels of antibodies of 42 type 2 patients that were taking insulin. This was done 15 days before they interrupted the flow of the insulin. They then took measures after disrupting the insulin flow. They found out that the insulin antibodies disappear for 60 days after discontinuing the insulin intake. This article is credible and it will serve a great purpose in my research because it allows me to dive deeper into Type 2 and its antibodies.

Gestational Diabetes is when the diabetes occurs when a woman is pregnant. This can also affect the health of the baby. This type of diabetes may go away after the birth of the child, however, sometimes it may not. This article talks a lot about the prevention of diabetes and how one can maintain it as a woman is pregnant. This article will be really beneficial to my research because it allows me to go deer in the causes and effects of gestational diabetes as well as learning how it can form and how it can be prevented. I will use this to also look into the antibodies of pregnant women and their babies.
